Many of us, nowadays, seem to believe that a happy future is something impossible to achieve. While such concerns must be taken very seriously, they are not invincible. They can be overcome when we don't lock our door to the outside world. Happiness can only be discovered as a gift of harmony between the whole and each single component. Even science--and you know it better than I do--points to an understanding of reality as a place where every element connects and interacts with everything else. And this brings me to my second message. How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion. How wonderful would it be, while we discover faraway planets, to rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters orbiting around us. When one realizes that life, even in the middle of so many contradictions, is a gift, that love is the source and the meaning of life, how can they withhold their urge to do good to another fellow being?

Which of the following statements is NOT true according to this passage?

AEach and everyone's existence is deeply tied to that of others.
BLife is about interactions.
CWe need to open ourselves to others for achieving a happy future.
DScientific innovation would definitely lead to a better future.正確答案
答案與詳解
D
正確答案
本題考「NOT true」,找短文中未支持或相反的敘述。D選項說科技創新「必然」帶來更好未來,但短文用的是「How wonderful would it be IF...」的假設語氣,並非確定。

為什麼答案是 D

短文用的是「How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion」,是假設語氣(if),表達一種期望而非確定。D選項卻用「definitely」(必然),將假設語氣偷換為肯定語氣,與短文意思不符,故D為NOT true的正解。
