The higher risk of basement fires has significant implications for British Columbia. In this province, high housing prices have made secondary suites--often located on a home's lower level--an ＿＿（46）＿＿ option as both a mortgage helper and a source of affordable housing. Many suites are ＿＿（47）＿＿ without following the required regulatory process and are therefore ＿＿（48）＿＿ to meet safety standards. This is particularly worrying ＿＿（49）＿＿ it comes to electrical wiring, due to the risk for fires and other electrical injuries. To ＿＿（50）＿＿ this risk, it is suggested that an inspection scheme focusing on electrical safety, and basements in particular, would be effective in reducing the overall burden of electrical fires.
