Did you know that Feeding America is the largest food rescue organization in the United States? Every day, its network of 200 food banks and 60,000 agency partners works to rescue safe, healthy food and distribute it to neighbors facing hunger—helping ensure they have the nourishment they need to thrive.
Surplus food exists and our mission is to find it. In fact, the United States produces 92 billion pounds of surplus food each year. That’s more than enough to feed everyone. Yet much of this perfectly safe, wholesome food goes to waste and never reaches those in need. Feeding America is working to change that.
Through initiatives like the Food Rescue Challenge, we aim to transform an additional 1 billion pounds of rescued food into meals each year, turning excess into access. We collect surplus produce, protein, and dairy products from grocery stores, food manufacturers, and farms. Items like bananas and carrots can fuel young minds in school, while milk and eggs help families stay strong and healthy.
Once rescued, this food is redistributed across the country through our extensive network, making Feeding America the nation’s leader in food rescue. In the past year alone, we recovered and distributed over 4 billion pounds of food.
We now have an incredible opportunity to do even more. By joining the Food Rescue Challenge, you can help us reach our ambitious goal and bring safe, nutritious food to millions more. Rescuing food not only reduces waste—it ensures that everyone has access to the food they need to live and thrive.
